Municipal wastewater treatment

Efficient wastewater and sewage treatment plant technologies for UK environmental compliance.

Energy-efficient effluent treatment technologies for resource reuse and environmental compliance.
Overview

What is municipal wastewater treatment?

We use lots of water in our kitchens and bathrooms, creating waste water to treat. Rainwater also runs off roads, rooves and land. This must all be collected for treatment and re-use.

Municipal wastewater treatment describes the process of cleaning this sewage and dirty water. Carried out at a sewage treatment plant, removal of contaminants is followed by water purification. The treated water is then safely returned to the environment, ready for use again.

Why is treatment important?

As the world’s population expands, pressure on important resources such as water is immense. Treating municipal wastewater and sewage ensures we re-use every possible drop.

Run-off rainwater contains pollutants such as pesticides from land, petroleum by-products, and bacteria. A wastewater treatment plant removes these, making the water safe to return to the environment. Without doing so, the natural world and public health would be at risk.

With such high volumes of sewage and waste water to process in the UK, treatment plants must operate as efficiently as possible. That comes down to having the right technology and guidance.

Veolia technologies for wastewater and sewage treatment plants

At Veolia, we see wastewater and sewage as resource water. Our technologies help treatment plants cost-effectively process and recover clean water.

Whilst we provide equipment for new plants, we also upgrade aging treatment sites. This makes them more effective for today’s high demands. It also avoids costly expansion and ensures the highest output from existing services.

We provide systems to enhance all treatment stages - from clarification and filtering to separation and treatment. In fact, our wastewater treatment technologies will ensure your plant is fully compliant, delivering high standards daily.

Key Veolia treatment technologies:

  • Efficient pre-treatment
  • Stormwater management
  • Smart lagoon upgrades
  • Existing plant upgrades
  • Improved wet weather capacity
  • Full treatment plant specification
