What is Ultrapure Water?
Ultrapure water (UPW) is water that has undergone a very high level of purification in order to meet stringent water purity requirements. Water of this quality is required for semiconductor, power and laboratory applications.
Water for laboratory applications is graded by water type, from Type 1 to Type 3 (I to III). Types 1 to 3 are the most commonly used. Type 3 water is the lowest laboratory grade and Type 1 ultrapure water is the highest. The water types define the water specifications regarding the levels of contaminants such as organics, ions, pyrogens and bacteria.
